This is the space for the exhibition with the theme of "Mid Century Modern" design in California. Various shapes and sizes such as architecture, furniture, lighting, pottery, toy, car, clothes, textile, graphic, etc. are exhibited. The exhibition room 1E of The National Arts Center Tokyo, which is the venue, is column-free rectangular space with the area of about 2000 square meters. It is the system that the space is divided by 40 large ceiling suspended movable walls. I wanted to place the exhibition walls so as not to divide this space as much as possible because there is not quite a large square space so much. Therefore, I placed the movable walls so as to draw one ring, and we made it that there are large ones in the square room. And I added the low base at the bottom with connecting the movable walls. Exhibits are lined up from old to new in chronological order. The flat objects are exhibited on the movable walls, the three-dimensional things are exhibited on the base and nothing is exhibited on the existing wall. At first the visitors walk outside of the ring to look the exhibits, and then go inside the ring. The ring is discontinuous in some places and people can see the other side although they can’t go through the gaps. They can see the future when they are outside and the past when they are inside. By visually connecting the outside and the inside of the ring, it is not a fragmentary exhibition divided for each room but an exhibition that is felt like one space, experience and time.
