Garden
This is the space for the exhibition that exhibits visual communication design of Switzerland. During work, when thinking about the arrangement and composition of drawings and photographs, I sometimes put them on the floor side by side and see them. This is because a background wider than a desk or wall can be secured, and it is possible to view from a distance, and at the same time, it is possible to easily rearrange and think about the orientation and order. I don't know how many people are doing this now, but looking at the Swiss designers' work and their workplaces, which Arata Maruyama, the exhibition organizer, actually visited and interviewed, it seemed to me that they must still be doing so, as if they were facing the objects and the real space. Rather than exhibiting the work, I hoped the space would convey that feeling. In addition, all three venues were multipurpose spaces, with relatively few pure walls, and the floor was physically more suitable for use, so I naturally moved to thinking about using the floor. In order to create a spatial connection between the differently sized and shaped venues that are far from each other, I used concrete blocks, which are commonplace and of a constant shape and size, as the material for the space. Exhibits and blocks are placed on the floor, and people walk on the blocks to see the exhibits. One can feel the exhibits in the same way as when the designers were examining them. In addition, the arrangement of blocks, which is different for each venue, slightly deviates from the original usability of the space, so it makes us feel that there is a double space (feeling of misaligned rather than nested). The exhibits are in between two space, and makes you feel as if they are keeping a distance from both.
