Puddle

This is the installation for the exhibition Design × Science Meeting "Earth : Materials for Design" at Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation). The exhibition is the one as the output of the meeting that the designers and the scientists think of three materials of metal, wood and plastic from the viewpoint of design and science. Eleven pairs of designers and architects exhibited. With the theme of plastic I exhibited with the cellophane sheet of 15 cm square seen at the stationery store. When a cellophane sheet is removed from the package it becomes curled and tubular by itself and can be stood. I stand them and lay them on the table and create scenery. It is the attempt to find beauty and comfort unique to artificial objects rather than pursue beauty and comfort by making artificial objects resembling natural objects.

水たまり

日本科学未来館「デザイン×科学 地球マテリアル会議」展でのインスタレーションである。金属、木、プラスチックという素材をデザインと科学の視点から考える会議のアウトプットとしての展覧会である。11組のデザイナーや建築家が展示を行った。私はプラスチックをテーマに、文房具屋で見かける15cm角のセロファンを使って展示を行った。セロファンのシートは、袋から取り出すと、カールし筒状になり自立する。それをテーブルいっぱいに並べ、一つの風景をつくっている。人工物を自然物に似せてつくることで、美しさや心地よさを追求するのではなく、人工物ならではの美しさや心地よさを見つけようとする試みである。
